Plesk 7 has been designed and implemented to support the operating systems listed here. For instructions on installing Plesk 7 on a particular operating system see the following chapters.
Theoretically, it is possible that Plesk would work on other distributions of Linux, but SWsoft, Inc. has not tested the software on all versions and cannot guarantee the product's performance. The current release runs on specified versions of Linux. Future releases of Plesk may run on other Linux versions.
The minimal hardware requirements for the Plesk 7 installation are the same as those of the operating system being installed for use with Plesk 7.
Table 1.1. Recommended hardware configuration.
| Number of domains | Amount of RAM | Processor |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 256 MB | Pentium II |
| 500 | 512 MB | Pentium III |
| 1500 | 2000 MB | dual Pentium III |
| 2000 | 4000 MB | dual Pentium 4 |
If you are going to partition the hard drive into several partitions, pay attention to the peculiarities existing for different types of Plesk installations.
For this type of installation Plesk uses the following partitions: /usr, /home, and /var. The /usr partition stores functional files used by Plesk, the /home partition houses the home directories of server users, and the /var partition stores various data related to the system's work (system logs) and the system files of mail and DNS services. It is advisable to keep in mind that the /home partition stores the most part of useful server and user data, therefore the sufficient amount of disk space should be allocated accordingly. Besides the system files, the /var partition stores the web applications (WAR files) and domain dump files, that is why the size of this partition should be equal to that of the /home.
For this type of Plesk installation only the /usr partition is used, therefore its size should be fair enough to house all the data, i.e the size of this partition should be equal to the total sum of all partitions' sizes used in RPM version.
Plesk requires that the network components including inetd/xinetd be properly installed in the system before installation of the Plesk software.
See appendix Package Requirements for the list of packages that are required for Plesk for each specific operating system.
